Max Riese Breaks Triple Everesting World Record

93 climbs. 26,553 meters. 37 hours in the saddle. 2 hours and 50 minutes faster than the previous record.

Gaisberg, Austria – August 21, 2025, In a feat of sheer endurance, grit, and just the right amount of madness, Austrian ultra cyclist Max Riese has officially broken the Triple Everesting World Record, riding his home climb Gaisberg 93 times in succession and climbing a total of 26,553 meters.

The effort required 26,500+ meters of elevation, more than 35 hours on the bike, and zero moments of doubt... okay, maybe a few.

Max said after the ride:

“This isn’t about proving anything, it’s crazy, yes, but this was personal."

Starting with 1,000 VAM in the early hours, Max kept a steady pace of 750 VAM through the night, fighting off fatigue, darkness, and creeping hallucinations.

The Night Shift

By hour 20, the fatigue was undeniable. Darkness set in, and Max’s energy wavered. Between 2–4am, a friend joined him for support — a vital boost during his lowest moment. “He looked like a zombie at 2am,” said the Posedla crew filming on-site. “But somehow, he rallied.”

From 6am onward, more friends showed up to ride alongside him. By 7am, Max was back at 1,000 VAM pace, closing in on the record with renewed force.

And Then Came The Rain

Just when the finish line was in sight, the sky opened up. The final three hours unfolded under torrential rain, forcing Max to slow down on descents and ride with extreme caution. Still, soaked to the bone, he powered through. After the final loop, he hopped off the bike, grabbed a shower and looked remarkably fresh for someone who’d just spent a day and a half conquering gravity.

The Setup

Max completed the ride aboard a lightweight Cervélo climbing bike, wearing 7mesh kit, and navigating with a Coros bike computer. He trusted his comfort to a custom-fit Posedla Joyseat Ultra - the same ultra lightweight bespoke saddle used by elite gravel racers around the world - and his footing to Quoc shoes. After 35+ hours of climbing, his only complaint? Sore knees.

Final Stats

  • Total time: 37h 37m
  • Total elevation: 26,553 m
  • Average VAM: 760 m/h (Based on the total activity time of 34h 57m)
  • Number of loops: 93
  • Record broken by: 2 hours and 50 minutes faster than previous (Jakob Wagenhofer)
